Cubicle 7 - John Wick Announce Partnership Cubicle 7 – John Wick Announce Partnership Cubicle 7 Entertainment and John Wick are pleased to announce they have signed a publishing agreement. This partnership will see Cubicle 7 bring award-winning author and game designer John Wick’s games to a wider audience through distribution and retail stores. “I’ve enjoyed John’s games ever since he designed 7th Sea and Legend of the Five Rings for Alderac Entertainment,” said Angus Abranson of Cubicle 7 “I carried on following him when he left the mainstream industry, set up his own company – Wicked Dead Brewing Company – and produced some fantastic games such as Cat and Thirty. It’s an honour to now be able to work alongside John and help bring some of his newer, and future, games to the wider audience they deserve.” HOUSES OF THE BLOODED is the first book to be published through Cubicle 7: a game of Ambition, Lust and Revenge. Thousands of years ago, the ven ruled the world. They were a passionate people, obsessed with Romance and Revenge, opera and theater, and all the forbidden delights their decadent culture provided. In the end, that which made them beautiful was also the key to their own destruction. Houses of the Blooded is a game about tragic obsession. Set in the fantastic world of ven myth and legend, players take the roles of powerful characters bent on conquering their world, destroying their enemies and possessing all they desire. “I'm very excited,” said John Wick. "My end goal has always been to get as many people playing my games as possible. My partnership with Cubicle 7 will help make that happen." About Cubicle 7 Entertainment Ltd Founded in 2006 Cubicle 7 Entertainment was set up by Angus Abranson and Dominic McDowall-Thomas, two gaming entrepreneurs who wanted to create a games publisher fostering some truly iconic brands. Since then the company has published role playing games from a growing list of properties including Victoriana, SLA Industries, Starblazer Adventures (based on DC Thomson’s 80’s Starblazer comic series), 7th Circle’s Chinese fantasy Qin and is releasing Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space, under licensed from the BBC, in October . Dragonmeet SW - Seminars
Hi all, We'll be at Dragonmeet South West in Swindon this coming Sunday (28th June). We have a stand there (with a special surprise on it) and I'll be doing two seminars too. ---------- TIME: 12.30pm - 1.30pm TITLE: Small Press - Publishing Your Own Games HOST: Angus Abranson Small Press and Independent Publishing in the games arena has really taken off other the last few years. With some of the best titles - such as Evil Hat's "Spirit of the Century " and Contested Grounds' "Cold City" selling as many, if not more, copies as many more established companies. With the lowering cost of entering the games publishing business thanks to Print-on-Demand companies such as Lulu and Lightning Source many budding games designers have turned their hands to publishing. Angus looks at the areas a budding games publisher should look at as well as other options available to them. ---------- TIME: 2.30pm - 3.30pm TITLE: Holy Grails? – Licensing in the RPG Industry HOST: Angus Abranson and Matthew Sprange Licensed games have been a stable of the games industry for decades. All sorts of films, comics, TVs and books have been turned into games from titles such as Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Babylon 5, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Marvel and Star Trek to titles such as Hercules & Xena, He-Man, Evil Dead and even Dallas! What's the attraction of licensed games to publishers and fans? What are the rewards and pitfalls? With a host of licensed games still in the works such as The Dresden Files, Doctor Who and Dragon Age all due out in the next six months companies certainly seem keen on licensed properties. Matthew and Angus discuss licenses, past and present, and answer questions about these so called "Holy Grails". ---------- Chris is also doing one... TIME: 11.30am - 12.30pm TITLE: Starblazer Adventures - Behind the scenes on the space opera and forthcoming fantasy RPG's! HOST: Chris Birch Chris Birch, line manager and writer of Starblazer Adventures talks about the process of creating the massive RPG core book, how it started, the highs and lows, and where it's going including a discussion of the forthcoming Chronicles of Anglerre based on Starblazer's fantasy issues, which will allow everything from low level gritty play through to epic god like legends. ---------- ...and we have demo games of Victoriana and Starblazer taking place being run by there developers (that'll be Andy and Chris). Plus Andy is running a game of Hellcats and Hockeysticks which is his own 'Indy' small press game he's developing for his own company (Corone design). So quite a busy day for us all told. Please come along if you can!

Mindjammer Campaign Setting Announced for Starblazer Adventures Mindjammer is a self-contained campaign setting designed to bring the transhuman space theme to the Starblazer Adventures role playing game. Mindjammer is a sourcebook for the Starblazer Adventures game set in the strange and distant future of our own planet Earth.
It is a cool yet believable science-fiction setting of lost worlds, incredible technologies, and clashing civilizations. It draws upon the "far future" works of writers like Cordwainer Smith, Larry Niven, Iain M. Banks, Dan Simmons, and Peter F. Hamilton for inspiration, with nods to the pulps, space operas, and planetary romances of writers like Edgar Rice Burroughs, Harry Harrison, and Leigh Brackett. "It was the Second Age of Space, the Rediscovery of Mankind. The light of human civilization, which had flickered and threatened to die, suddenly burned bright again with contact with the thousand worlds of space.
Humankind laughed, filled with the joy and power of a new-found youth, and strode forth to bring its message of hope and regeneration to the stars..."
The Mindjammer setting introduces the New Commonality, the nascent interstellar state attempting to dominate the Rediscovery Era, a time when ultra-advanced technologies rub shoulders with lost and regressed worlds. It provides a unique and action-packed setting of epic high adventure - and something a little different from more conventional space opera settings. Mindjammer provides everything needed to play using only the Starblazer Adventures rules.
"Were we on the brink of extinction? I'd say so, yes. Three or four centuries ago, no one had any interest in anything. It was like everything worth knowing had already been known, everything worth doing already done, and a million times over. We were happy enough, with our drugs and our slaves, and our endless diversions. But we were on our way out: something had gone, some zest, some spice, that made it all worthwhile. Now you get to live as long as you want, as long as you don't get killed. Life is dangerous again. And, somehow, that suddenly makes it all worth living."
Mindjammer contains exotic races and new careers, sentient starship characters, far future technologies including the interstellar "Mindscape" and technological psionics, new skills and stunts, new starships, rules for interstellar cultures and cultural conflict, starmaps, worlds and a detailed background of a huge Star Empire and its allies and foes. There's also a complete campaign of four linked scenarios, "The Black Zone", including some spectacular Starblazer action with combat walkers, mass battles, and terrifying alien technologies! You can find out more about the Mindjammer supplement by downloading the Introduction To Mindjammer free pdf over at www.mindjammer.com or www.rpgnow.com where you can also find the free introductory adventure 'Escape From Venu'.
Mindjammer is the work of a passionate industry writer, Sarah Newton, whose work includes post-apocalyptic, horror, and techno-fantasy material for Chaosium's Basic Roleplaying and soon-to-be-published short Lovecraftian fiction. Sarah is also working with Starblazers' Chris Birch on the forthcoming Starblazer Adventures: Chronicles Of Anglerre fantasy RPG and is currently writing several adventure supplements for Mindjammer. "Mindjammer and Starblazer is a match made in heaven for me,” said Sarah. "Starblazer has the rules, the flexibility, and the sheer gaming vision to allow for truly up-to-date, 21st century science-fiction with its hyper-advanced technologies and transhuman themes. It's a game which gives you tools for some spectacular action, and with Mindjammer we've really tried to take full advantage and blaze some new trails through the stars!"
The 160 page Mindjammer supplement is due to be released in November this year by Cubicle 7 Entertainment Ltd with further supplements due in 2010. | | Thursday, June 4th, 2009 | | 4:26 pm |
Cubicle 7 Interviews...
Hi all, One of the things we're going to start doing on our website very shortly is posting up an interview each month with people connected to the company. This could be a writer or line developer, an artist, an author whose work we've licensed to turn into a game or one of our publishing partners (more on that will be announced week). To kick things off we've decided that our first interview should be with Dominic and myself, as Directors and owners of Cubicle 7. We'd like to get your input into this process (not just for Dominic and myself) so every so often we'll be posting up a post like this (on our own Forums - www.cubicle7.co.uk) asking for suggestions of what you'd like to ask the person/people next up on the hot seat. You can let us know your questions by either replying to the relevant thread (we'll be checking back and choosing some of the questions to take to the interviews) or emailing us on angus@ cubicle7.co.uk (or you can reply here on LJ and I'll check back) with the subject title "Interview Question" and then the question in the text of your mail. Any questions that get used will be credited to the person who asked them. The deadline for questions for the first interview (the one to Dominic and myself) is June 15th. We look forward to hearing your questions! Victoriana and Starblazer Adventures in Previews Magazine!
The May 2009 Edition of Previews (Issue #248) is soliciting our two July releases! They are on Page 423 in the Games section of the magazine. Victoriana 2nd Edition and Starblazer Adventures are both due for retail release in July and are the launch of our new monthly release schedule (more news of that to follow in about a week). Previews is a magazine I've been getting for many, many years as it THE source for all the hot new comics (both major and indie publishers), games, t-shirts, action figures and everything else comics/games orientated. I've found many a good, obscure, comic title it it's hallowed pages over the years so it brought a big smile to my face to finally see titles that I'm involved with gracing its pages. I was bouncing so much I even bounced to the other side of the office and scanned the page with our books in so I can show you all! (Sorry, for some reason I can't uplaod a bigger image of the page at present...) Both books are now available to pre-order through comic and games stores everywhere! |
